The publication comprehends a collaborative work with 10 artists – Rossella Biscotti, Katinka Bock, Gintaras Didžiapetris, Patricia Esquivias, Simon Fujiwara, João Maria Gusmao & Pedro Paiva, Emre Hüner, Reto Pulfer, Raymond Taudin Chabot and Carla Zaccagnini – and it is conceived as a reflection on the source materials and researches behind the artistic practice and process. The artists’ contributions are their own personal researches, references, sources, impressions or paraphernalia that altogether constitute that ‘background material’ relevant to a specific work of art, or to the artist’s working process in general, and which always remains in the obscurity of the studio. Divided in 10 chapters, one dedicated to each artist, the book is conceived in the form of a both visual and written collage, and each chapter is introduced by a text or an interview carried out by the editors.
